11th Grade

Welcome Back, Juniors!

Junior year is one of the most important years of high school. This is the time to challenge yourself academically, explore post-secondary options, and begin preparing for life after graduation.

Promotion to 12th Grade

To be promoted to 12th grade, students must earn at least 18 credits, including:

  • 1 credit in English III
  • Be on track to successfully complete all North Carolina and Rocky Mount High School graduation requirements.

Junior Success Tips

  • Create or update your CFNC and College Board accounts to access college and career planning resources.
  • Consider taking the PSAT/NMSQT to prepare for college entrance exams and scholarship opportunities.
  • Prepare for the SAT and/or ACT. See your school counselor if you need information about fee waivers. North Carolina administers the ACT to all juniors during the spring.
  • Research colleges, universities, trade schools, military pathways, apprenticeships, and workforce opportunities that match your interests and career goals.
  • Attend college fairs, college visits, and admissions events to learn more about your options.
  • Continue participating in clubs, athletics, fine arts, and service organizations while seeking leadership opportunities.
  • Build relationships with teachers, counselors, coaches, and mentors who can provide guidance and write letters of recommendation.
  • Schedule college campus visits or attend virtual tours to help determine the best fit for your future.
  • Meet with your school counselor regularly to review your graduation progress and post-secondary plan.

The choices you make during your junior year will help shape your future. Stay focused, challenge yourself, and take advantage of every opportunity as you prepare for your senior year and beyond.
